Swedish Knives - What steel is the best?

Posted by Ramon Elzinga on

Sweden's premier steel to use when it comes to making knives is most likely regarded as 12C27 - a high end steel manufactured by Sandvik steels. More recently this has been refined to 14C28N at the same factory.

Like anything Swedish, this is a minimized, simplistic yet classy steel with the following composition:

Elements 12C27
C 0.60%
Si 0.40%
Mn 0.40%
Ni -
Cr 13.50%
P 0.03%
S 0.01%
